About

In the real world, I am an advertising profession with experiences in strategic media planning, media channel & product development and management, research analysis, as well as sales & project management. I enjoy connecting with people, as well as consulting / providing advice for OOH & DOOH media based networks in relation to network/media development, metric/content, establishing foundations for ad sales, and many things in between that are required to start up or improve the various networks and medias that are out in the market today.

I like to think that I have a good degree of knowledge on media overall, which spans from online to offline, and have worked with 20+ lifestyle venues/media channels (GameStop, NTN Buzztime, My Gym, Marc Ecko, & Ashleys Furniture; just to name a few) in helping to develop and manage their channels / networks, and the variety of medias within them.

I also do have a nact for understanding an eclectic set of demographics (children, 18 to 35, 21+, Alpha moms, etc) and the strategic needs of various Brands. I have worked on hundreds of strategies & media plans with millions in budgets and billions in impressions for top brands such as Disney, Dodge, Hasbro, Kimberly-Clark, Mazda, Sony; then Sony again, and Warner Brothers. Ultimately, I believe that effective marketing plans Always requires the creative and integrated use of all media that are relevant to the brands’ objectives.

I started Just Out-Of-Home to share my knowledge, experiences, and passion for all things media, but also decided to focus on the Digital Signage & Out-of-home spaces in order to hopefully raise awareness for this sector of media; especially as I do feel that these spaces have immense untapped potentials, and even perhaps, misunderstood.

I am always searching for emerging concepts, technologies and media in this and other media spaces. In addition to running  justoutofhome.com, I have also been focusing myself on the social media space in order to observe how organizations are using this particular media today, and how others can and should use social media to connect and communicate with their consumers. Let’s just say I live online, and have seen the evolution from 1.0 to 2.0, and can’t wait for 3.0 / beyond.

justoutofhome.com is my personal project to raise my skills & knowledge, but I ultimately hope to share my own perspective on the Digital Signage and Out of home spaces in order to increase the positive & “fun” perceptions on these sectors.

Thank you for taking your valuable time to read my rants!

You’re a welcome new voice in the digital signage and out-of-home media community. I found your blog through Twitter, and, must say, that I have been enjoying reading your take on the industry. Keep up the good work and I look forward to engaging in deeper conversations with you on our industry. There are certainly a lot of exciting things happening to talk about it.

Thank you so much David! I apologize, but I saw your first comment, but accidently deleted a couple of comments, including yours, so Thanks for commenting again; I was hoping you would. (still trying to get a feel for this wordpress system) It’s only been 2 weeks or so, but everyone’s been very welcoming and nice, which I really really appreciate! Just goes to show the fact that there are a lot of nice and intelligent people in our industry. The “Sixth Sense” post on your blog is SICK! Really like stuff like that, so you keep up the good work as well. Have a great weekend DW!

I’m in NYC too – we should meetup soon, we can join forces like those mighty robots/transformers that bond together to form a stronger- more powerful and larger robot

Thanks for the kind words Manolo!

Yeah, definitely NOT corporate, although I do play one on Digital Signage TV. :) Already had some comments from companies that seem to be self-promotional, which I’m not having. I do plan on selling out later though with some ad spaces, but probably not anytime soon. I’m “straight from the streets of NYC” so try to speak the “truth,” but I know how to hustle / make the Bengies too!

Love Transformers man! Grew up on the cartoon and toys; Hate the movie! If you guys need some outside perspective on content, I’m always around for that.

Definitely down with meeting up at soon man, but the boy is broke these days (prob. cause I stopped the hustle…) :) Didn’t know you were with Show&Tell; thought you were just with the Daily. Phil’s presentation was absolutely brilliant! You can tell him that he has a fan here. Let’s link up soon Mano!

Thanks for mentioning Wiffiti and LocaModa and what we did when we connected Times Sq to 1,200 locations via Danoo (and Ecast, Barcast et al btw). This isn’t a shameless plug, but rather recognition that you aren’t just reporting on social media + DOOH, but actually get it and that’s really important. We believe that DOOH needs to wake up to the web (and distance itself from its video/TV hereditary). It (DOOH) so clearly MUST be engaging, measurable and attention getting to be of any value to brands and advertisers. Mobile and social tech are critical parts of the solution. Aggregating conversations and interactions (a la Jumbli and Wiffiti) and displaying them in a cross-channel (Facebook, Times Sq, Jukeboxes etc) socially and contextually interesting way is part of the future. So keep up the good work. btw – We’re based in Boston and my team and I are in NYC every week (I’m writing this from the Acela to Penn st in fact). Would welcome the chance to meet next time we’re there.

      Hey Stephen!

Thanks for the comment. Yes, one of the consistent message I try to put out through the blog, and is my personal belief, is that “Integration” is key, where medias need to “bounce” off each other to engage the consumers out there. Many still strategize and plan their campaigns where they still consider all the medias as different entities (as an example; online media companies / agencies / internal divisions, then “tradition,” then “DOOH / OOH” and so on). I guess in a sense, this is rightfully so, as we will always have the need for Expertise in each media, but at the end of the day, I think we also need to start thinking like a Brander, where there focus is to see ALL the different and available media, see which are relevant to the message(s) they are trying to communicate, then dedicate the budgets accordingly / in an “even” manner to create campaigns that sticks. I keep bringing up Sony in this blog; not just because I have worked on their campaigns the most, but also because I’m always impressed in the way they evaluate the media space, and utilize them. They still remain as one of the best branding media experts I know in the advertising space; they learn very quickly and asks the right questions, but are also good at giving the “benefit of the doubt” when new / emerging media is concerned.

At the end of the day, there is still a lot of “separation” out there in chasing the “new & hot” media; this will never work, and I’ve tried to steer away from this type of mentality in my career, granted it might have not been that long. (I’m not an “expert” by any means like some of the others in twitter and blog lands) In terms of Loca’s activities with the involved parties; I told Jayne this before, but it is activities like you guys are doing that is setting the up the plate for the next evolution in media, regardless of how simple, or complex. I also want to say (manage expectations) that it’s certainly not the “end game” of everything, But the ability to cover integration between mobile, web, social and DOOH (oh, And gaming) Will be a powerful form of integration, engagement, and media. Love to meet up next time, and bring Jayne down as well. Love to see the person behind the Twitter face. :) Have a great day Stephen! It is actually decent weather-wise in NYC today.
